analytical and toxicological environmental chemistry

Development and validation of targeted and untargeted liquid chromatography -  tandem and/or high resolution mass spectrometry methods for the identification, structural characterization and quantification of natural marine and cyano-toxins and anthropogenic organic pollutants in environmental, food and biological matrices.

Research groups:

  • ACAE
Research focuses on alternatives to synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, to reduce use in agriculture. Innovative biotechnologies are based on plant beneficial microorganisms, natural microbial or botanical compounds having biological control activity against pathogens/pests, or plant growth promotion effects. Biological products are used in integrated management to improve agricultural crop protection, production and food quality, develop novel pharmaceuticals, sustaining natural equilibria and biodiversity, reducing toxicological risks in the environment.

  • DREAMINESS

The research is within the broad topic of the environment-health relationship, aiming to monitor chemical contaminants, from different sources, in food, environmental and biological matrices. Levels of marker compounds of specific diseases are also measured in biological matrices. The experimental activity involves the development of ad hoc analytical procedures by matrix type and analyte and their validation in accordance with the main official guidelines.
