Saturday 25 February 2023 at the State Archives of Naples, Antonio Lavecchia and Sergio Attanasio have presented the book "From Apothecaries to Pharmacists, History, iconography and furnishings" published by Guida Editori. The volume describes the fascinating developments of the Pharmaceutical Art and follows its fundamental stages from prehistory to the early 1900s, telling the stories of the men and women involved in the extraordinary evolution of this science. An excursus, which starts from the archaic practices of the doctor-apothecary-sorcerer, passing through the teaching of Hippocrates and medieval beliefs and superstitions, up to the triumph of knowledge and techniques accomplished between the 1800s and 1900s.
The Department of Pharmacy and the Polo Universitario Penitenziario
The Department of Pharmacy, led by Prof. Mariano Stornaiuolo, is one of the promoters of the Polo Universitario Penitenziario (P.U.P.) of the University of Naples Federico II dedicated to enabling the attainment of university-level qualifications by inmates in prisons of the Region Campania http://www.polopenitenziario.unina.it/.
In 2022 we contributed to various Public Engagement initiatives on the subject, awarded at the National Conference of Rectors' Delegates for the University Penitentiary Poles (CNUPP) set up at the CRUI. In particular, we created at the prison centre "P. Mandato" of Secondigliano a University Library focusing on Biology and Pharmacy. In the prison there is a field cultivated with saffron by our students from the Herbal Sciences degree. We have also organized activities at the Nisida juvenile prison where we held an educational workshop as part of the 2022 European Researchers' Night S.T.R.E.E.T.S.

Blog on food and drugs interactions
Prof. Paolo Grieco curates a blog on drug-food interactions that has reached over 30.000 contacts to date. Aim of this website is to provide information about the most recent scientific findings in the issues concerning the interactions between Drugs and Nutrients. Understanding the effects of food taken on a daily basis on the activity of drugs can favour the task of health professionals in taking the necessary precautions in the simultaneous intake of food and drugs. Many nutrients can interact with drugs both at the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic level and very often the final results are not always predictable. These unexpected events can not only reduce the therapeutic effects but also give rise to serious side toxic effects.
